At the age of thirty, why am I still giddy about characters I used to watch when I was five? I never got some of these characters when I was a kid, and getting them now fulfills a childhood wish. When I watched cartoons I always wanted to have the same character in figure form as I saw on the screen, but in the 80’s options were limited. The Super powers line did a great job getting us figures, but did not reflect the shows that inspired and fueled the line. So why am I ranting about being a kid? This new DCUC two pack has a Legion of Doom Brainiac, and even though they were pricey it was worth it... or was it? Read on to find out.
Superman is nothing new, and there is not much to say about him. He is a mix of a Wave Six superman, and an Eradicator head. The paint is well done with this figure and he has no stuck joints. The only issue I have with him is, once again, the dynamic posing of the figures in the package warps the joints. I have to dip him in a hot and cold bath to straighten out his legs. Now if Mattel would give us this figure with out the heat vision eyes we could have a definitive Superman in the line.

Brainiac- This figure is the Brainiac I have always wanted. Yes, he looks like something out of a bad 80’s movie with the pink collared shirt and the short shorts, but this is the first Brainiac I can remember from the old TV show. He, unlike Superman, has a few issues. His arms and chest colors don’t match; and while the colors look normal in the pictures, in person the difference is more noticeable, and I worry about the figure long term. Figures tend to fade in color and with such a difference in color between the arms and the torso, this normal fading could ruin this figure in a few years. Brainiac also suffers from warped legs because of the packaging, but I worry more about him because fixing figures that are hard to get is always a problem. He comes with the same gun that the DCSH Lex Luthor, but it does not come with a kryptonite rock.

Over all I like this set, but I wish it was cheaper and easier to get your hands on. Having to order them on online and pay for shipping puts this is the same category as the so-so Masters of the Universe figures. If you get a chance pick up one from the Enchanted Toy Chest, they are in stock and at a decent price.
