The Invaders are back, they have a book right now in stores, and they had an SDCC exclusive box set.  So how good is this set?  Come in and find out.

There is no doubt that The Marvel Universe line is my new addiction. I know that this line is the one that figures should be measured against. However, this box set of four figures falls a little short, though not completely.

The Human Torch is a great addition to the Marvel U line.  It is not Johnny, it is the old robot version from the early days of the Marvel Comics.  He shares a body and paint scheme with the Secret Wars two packs, but sports a new un-detailed head.  He also comes with a new fire ball attachment that could be used for any of the Marvel U hot heads.

For a guy who lives underwater, Namor is very tan.  The paint is one of two problems with the figure. The muscle lines are over sprayed, making him look too dark in some areas. The second issue is the wrists, they curve inward and look awkward.  The costume choice is great to have, most have always wanted this version of him.  Where the figure really shines is the head sculpt. It is spot on and has a hint of arrogance on it.  He comes with his trident, and a shell, which I would give up if he had gotten sculpted trunks on him like the Green Goblin armor.

Most people are asking if we really need a fourth Captain America in the line.  To be honest? Yes. This figure fits in well with the set, and it has a great feature: his paint job.  This figure looks like something out of an old, faded comic. A slightly warm look to all the color makes this a striking figure to look at.

The best and worst figure of the bunch is the Red Skull.  He looks like he stepped off the pages of a book as well, but, well, he is a bit short. While Hasbro is doing a great job keeping most of the figure lines in the 3 3/4 scale, not all of them match up. This Red Skull is a Vogel figure from the Indy line, with a new paint job and head.  It works great for the character but is a bit short.  He comes with a pistol and crop, and a tiny Hydra logo on his arm.

The details of the war department files, the secret intel and the box art all make this a must have set for Marvel fans.  It is almost like the figures are jumping out of a 1940’s film reel. They match their comic counter parts and have a very nostalgic feel to them.  Get it while you can from Hasbro Toy Shop.
