The movie is not in theaters, but with a DVD release around the corner, the Wolverine Origins toys keep coming.
The deluxe packs that were teased at Toy Fair in February have finally found their way into retail stores. I found them this past week at both K-mart and Walmart stores, although sticker shock down-sized my purchase. There are a few other packs, including a Wolverine with a motorcycle (similar to the TRU pack), Weapon-X (we got one Wave One) and chamber, and Deadpool (slightly different from Wave One) with a huge cannon. All looked good, but I did not want to re-buy figures for an action feature. I decided with some help, thanks Jr., to only grab a couple of them.
For me one set was a necessity to have, the Blob, and the other was for fun, Colossus. Both come at a hefty price, costing between $15 and $16, depending on the store. The paint on each figure is well done and they are the standard Marvel Universe/ Wolverine Origins bodies.
The Blob set comes with a Sabertooth with a much more cartoonish look to his face, but imposing nonetheless with other figures. For customizers Sabertooth makes a great base body to make other larger figures from, but he does not fit in well with the rest of the more comic styled figures. The Blob himself is both good and bad. He is huge compared to a Wolverine figure and has the classic comic look, thankfully not the movie look. He is articulated at the shoulder and neck but that is it. While some additional articulation could provide a better “action” figure for display, I understand where the money went in this set: the springs. He does have an action feature, when you raise his arms they can snap forward in a throwing motion. It is a cool feature but because of the type of action in a static pose his hands look awkward.
The second set comes with a Wolverine and Colossus. The package statess they can perform the “fast ball special” but it is more of a toss. Colossus, unlike the Blob, has arms that spring up so it is more of an over the shoulder throw behind him. The costume for Colossus is different than any I have seen, making him stand out in a display. The Wave Four single carded figure will be much better. Again, like the Blob, he is missing a ton of articulation that we are used to with this line. The Wolverine is a standard body with the Astonishing X-men costume, and the mask around his neck is a nice touch.

Over all I wold say grab the Blob set and pass on the Colossus, because a standard costume and better articulated version of him will be out shortly in the line as a single pack.
