With the release of the new Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Mattel has also released a new line of toys. These are a Target exclusive line and should start to show up at your local store shortly, but we have a few to show you to get you interested in the line.

When I fist saw this line at SDCC I was only slightly considering buying these figures. Even though they are in scale with the DCUC line and I know characters showing up in this line would most likely not show up in the DCUC line anytime soon, I was only half sold on the line.  I only wanted the villains and though the Superman and Batman looked cool, I could not rationalize the purchase.  Though the Build-a-Brimstone had me even more interested in the line, I was still on the other side of the fence. Now that I have them in my hands, Mattel changed my mind about these figures.

The figures in this line are made from the standard DCUC bucks. Icicle and Silver Banshee both had stuck joints right out of the box, but with a little pressure both were free to move without breakage.  The Silver Banshee appears to use the smaller female buck of the DCUC line and share some parts with Starfire and Harley, making her slightly smaller when standing next to the rest of the DCUC figures. Though she does have an animated look she is a decent representation of the character, and would fit in fine with DCUC figures.

Icicle has some great features, and one drawback.  He has the standard buck body, and has translucent arms and head. The parts are not completely see though, and as you move up the arm it gets less translucent, a great overall effect.  Where Icicle suffers is his head, it looks slightly small for the size of the body. While it does not hurt the figure overall, it does look a little weird.  The cartoony look of the head also makes him stand out, but in a display he should look find as a stand in for the character.  Both villains have no paint issues, making them stand out as some of the better 6 inch figures out today.

The other two figures are the team of Batman and Superman.  Both use the buck from the DCUC line and where they differ is the belts, heads, and paint choices. These are so well done that if not for the cartoon style heads these would be my default Batman and Superman in my display.  I like the bodies better the the DCUC 5 pack or the other offerings from the past.  Superman is especially well done and if he had a shorter cape he could be my Super Powers version of the character.

All the figures come with a piece of Brimstone, and a stand.  These are the same generic DCUC stands but are hidden at the top of the package and were a nice surprise, and something that I think could be included in each of the DCUC figures, moving forward, not just the All Stars.  The legs of Brimstone are solid and impressive in the bulk of the how heavy this figure will be eventually.  The arm I have is cast in translucent red plastic, giving him an impressive effect.  I can’t wait to get him built, and can’t wait to see how Kilowog in DCUC wave 11 BAF comes out, if he uses the same parts.

This line is great overall.  It represents the movie designs spot on and the quality on these figures shows Mattel continues to improve their action figure lines.  I hope his line continues and gives us more characters from the movie. Could you imagine a BAF armored Lex?

Thanks again to Toy Guru and all the people at Mattel for making this possible.
