Review: Superman/Batman: Public Enemies Infinite Heroes

The Infinite Heroes was a line that I jumped into with both feet and then jumped right back out.  There were multiple issues with the figures: from the over sized hands, to the limited articulation, to a wide range of prices. With the new Superman/Batman: Public Enemies Infinite Heroes line coming up, the figures are improved, and making me take second look at the line.

The first two sets to be released are the Superman, Lex and Power Girl, and Batman, Captain Atom, and Black Lightning boxes.  Though the costumes are based on the movie the sculpts are based on the regular Infinite Heroes line, with some improvements.

Three of the six figures sport new articulation while the other three are either all the same or have an improvement or two.  Superman, Batman, and Captain Atom include all new articulation, which makes the figures much better than the previous versions of the characters. Gone are the oversized hands and the limited articulation, and what we have are on par with other lines in this scale. The concern with these figures is the joints. On the older figures in this line the joints, while limited in articulation, were solid.  Now the joints with improved sculpt and range of motion are less stable and, as you can see, can be broken from simply trying to move the joint.

Black Lightning has the new articulation in the upper body, but has a T-joint at the waist, unlike the ball jointed legs for the other characters. One issue with Black Lightning is if you put the arm joints in the correct body position so that the elbows bend forward the paint does not match up with the biceps. It’s not a huge issue but for those of us who look at the smaller details this is something that could be fixed easily.  I hope this was limited to my figure, but only time will tell.

The two figures that have limited updates are Power Girl and Lex.  Both figures have new paint applications, but the rest are recycled figures.  I can understand reuse in lines today, but this line had the backing of the movie, and being a store exclusive line, so I expected a more. What bothers me with these two figures is the amazing lack of movement for both figures.  Granted Lex is in his bulky power suit, but people in sumo suits have a better range of motion.  I hope that the females of the line are not stuck with the old body type moving forward.  I know this is a boys line, but  that does not mean the females should miss out on improvements.

If this is the future of Infinite Heroes I can see the line becoming more popular with fans, but the quality has to improve, otherwise all the improvements won’t make a difference.

Remember to head to Target to get these figures, they should hit shelves on October 12th.

*Thanks to Mattel for sending these along.

*Editors Note: Sorry for all the delays. I finally have my office set up after the big move.
