The last DCUC two pack of the year, and last Matty Collector two pack for the time being is a nice bookmark to the first two pack offered at the beginning of 2009.
This two pack was one of the more surprising announcements to come out of SDCC. B'wana Beast and Animal Man are a natural combination and a great addition to the DCUC line. Both figures have an animal theme to them, and while a team up of the two heroes is not something that happens often in the comic pages, they make a great union for this last two pack.

Animal Man, aka Buddy Baker, is a figure that fans of the 52 series have been asking for since the Adam Strange/ Starfire two pack. The trio has been incomplete until now, and the last member is more impressive than the first two figures combined. The body is a standard DCUC buck, and has an amazing paint job, right down to the costume under his jacket. Speaking of the jacket, I expected to see a reused Mr. Terrific jacket but this piece is all new and made specifically for Buddy. While the over all look of the figure is one of the best to date for the Matty two packs, there is one flaw, the goggles. They are see through, but the execution is not as clean as the Blue Beetle. It is difficult to see through them to his eyes. It is hard to tell if there are paint issues under the goggles or if they are just causing distortion. Overall this figure looks great, and though the goggles are not as clean as as they could be, Animal Man is still impressive.

The other member of the pack is B'wana Beast. In the last few years thanks to the JLU cartoon and comic, and Batman: Brave and the Bold, the character has a much larger role in the DCU. The figure itself is rather plain, using again the standard buck. The loin cloth and boots are well detailed with clean paint apps. What troubles me is that the figure has very limited neck articulation. At first I thought it was due to the shape of his head, but after looking him over, it appears to be thanks to the new neck peg used in the DCUC line.

Overall this was a nice set to end the set of two packs from Matty Collector. It finishes off a much needed set started back in last January, and gives up a C-list character to build up the DCU roster.
