Review: Superman/Batman: Public Enemies Figures Wave Two

It only took five months, but collectors around the country are finally able to put together Brimstone. Check out the review inside.

The Public Enemies line, based on the animated movie, is one that many collectors were unsure about, full of painted bucks and a stylized look. The Infinite Heroes versions of the characters were not a big hit, still clogging the pegs at most Target stores. The DCUC size figures have been flying off the shelves of the Target stores around the county. Until Christmas most stores had wave one in stock, but in the past month the shelves have been empty, leaving collectors to wonder if they would ever see the second half of this line.

Thanks to Target’s mobile application it has been easier to find wave two. Most stores in the area had none in stock and when they showed up in stock on the website, it meant wave two was in, and the rush was on. Could I beat people calling in for the figures for them to be held, and could I beat other collectors rushing to the same store to the Super Hero aisles? Yep, and I came home with three new figures, Black Lightning, Major Force, and the final two pieces to build a Brimstone, as well as two new figure stands.

Black Lightning is a nice figure, but in some ways unnecessary. The figure uses the larger up body bucks like the rest of the males in this line. The paint is bright and reflects his cartoon colors and look. This version is also sturdier than the DCUC wave five Black Lightning. It is disappointing is that we have a version of him from the DCUC line, and his part in the movie is nothing more than a few grunts and groans. While he got some screen time, I would have rather gotten a human Metallo.

Major Force is a welcome addition to the DCUC line. Although he has a more cartoon head, he fits in well with the DCUC line, giving us another Green Lantern villain. The figure has the standard articulation as the other figures in the line. The paint on him is clean and bright, making him a stand out villain in any display.

The final figure is Brimstone, a massive figure, but a bit underwhelming thanks to the wave eleven Kilowog. When I finally got him together I was not as impressed with him as I was when I put together Kilowog.  He looks a bit smaller than Kilowog, due to the lack of head. His head is molded into the torso, giving the appearance of a smaller figure. The rest of the body is massive compared to the rest of the figures in this line, and a welcome addition to the DCUC line. In recent comics this version of Brimstone has made a few appearances, making him yet another big villain to add the DCUC display.

This line was not a necessity to many collectors because of the cartoony look, and in some cases the lack of Target stores in their area. For those who were able to track them down, they are a nice addition to the DCUC line, even with the slightly different look.
