Blog: UPDATEd-DCUC Toy Fair Speculation

Toy Fair is coming up in a week and there is a lot of debate on what is coming from the DCUC line.  We know that we might see wave 13 samples, Wave 14 two ups, and maybe a surprise or two. But what news could be coming about the line?

All over the boards there has been a Walmart list circulating, no confirmation but the names that have come up have people talking. There are a few problems with the lists though, a ton of characters, but no way to tell how the waves are arranged.  If you go by the numbers, the most likely line up is posted from Fwoosh below. Another issue is that there is no way to tell what versions of the characters we weill get so let’s go through what could be wave 14 and see what we can infer.

Update: AFP has seen Toy Fare 152 and confirmed the line up

Possible Wave 14: w/ Walmart numbers from Fwoosh

Lantern 2708483138

Obsidian 2708483139

Hourman 2708483140

Gold 2708483141

Kamandi 2708483142

Zatana 2708483143

Tyr 2708483144

This wave looks like an impressive one, but there are some holes.  Who is the Lantern? Looking over the wave, even though we all want Kyle or Guy, the only big name is the Lantern, and if the past waves are any indication, the major character in the wave has connections to the others. We have 2 JSA members, Hourman and Obsidian, on the list, which could only mean Alan Scott should be our Green Lantern. Toy Guru has been lobbying for a Kamandi for a long time enough though he is an obscure and plain character.

I would say Obsidian can go wither way, but I would be very surprised if we got a modern version. Tyr fills in the Super Powers requirement for 2010, and Gold helps build the metal men. Zatanna is also questionable, because her modern look of fishnets and a tux is popular, the look of the JLA is the satellite era and we could get that version instead. What is missing? The variants, which could be a figure that shares the same name as one of the characters, meaning there would not be a variant in the computer. This could mean Hourman would be the likely 50/50 split or another possibility, it could be a completely off the wall 80’s character, to that I would say the chances are highly likely. Even bigger news whatever ends up being 14 could be a Walmart exclusive wave, and could be the reason that most of the online retailers have not solicited the wave for pre-order yet. If you look at the all the facts it does add up that Walmart will be getting the wave that would separate the two first half of the year waves and the two end of the year waves. Matty has stated that all the major retailers would have exclusives, and Walmart’s deal to have an exclusive wave has insured that the store carries the line. Before wave five was announced Walmart was the only major retailer not carrying the line. This would be better in some ways, because three wave would not clog the retail stores at the end of the year making almost impossible to find these figures like it has the past 2 years.

I'm hoping the "Lantern" that is being referred to is Kyle in his original costume but I'd settle for an Alan Scott figure to fit in with the growing JSA team. Hourman, Zatanna, and maybe Obsidian are the only other figures from this line-up that I would be interested in.
