Welcome back to the second part of the DCUC wave 11 review.

Katma Tui- This figure is dead on for the character that has been deceased for over a decade. She is a perfect companion for John Stewart, and helps to build the Green Lantern Corps. Katma uses the all too skinny female buck we have seen with Harley and Starfire. The thin arms and neck are a concern for the longevity of the figure. She comes with two constructs, which can fit on both hands, a sword and shield. It is great to finally have constructs, but something was missing, her lantern. Mattel has said that an accessory pack is something they are looking into doing, and lanterns would be a great idea for them. There is a big problem these: new Corps members can’t hold them. She comes with two closed fist meaning even if we get a lantern for her, she can hold it.

Earlier I said that Deadman was not an ideal figure to have a variant, and Katma is the reason. In wave four Wonder Woman gave us a great second character Artemis, and Katma could have been used to give us one too, Jade. Jade could have been made with a new head and a simple body repaint, giving us a modern lantern, and another female. On the new packaging for wave twelve, we can see one might be coming and she looks an awful lot like the Katma sculpt.

John Stewart-

This is one of the most anticipated Green Lanterns in the DCU. He was a back up character during the 80’s and 90’s, but thanks to the JLU cartoon he has become, in some ways, more popular than Hal Jordan. The figure gives us an updated look for John, unlike the other Green Lanterns in this wave, making him a man without a place in some people’s displays. The figure itself is a larger buck with sculpted gauntlets on his forearms, and a great paint job. The figure comes with two ring constructs, a fist and a gun. Both fit on the right hand of the figure but unless balanced, they don’t stay on if you try to move them around. The figure, like most in this wave, has lost the ability to move his head other than right and left. He also gives customizers some new options for Green Lantern Corps members.

Steppenwolf (green)-

I was worried that due to costs this figure would not be made.  Because of Toy Guru I think that if they could only make one Steppenwolf it would have been the Super Powers one, so this was a surprise. The figure is, from head to toe, original Kirby inspired. The Horsemen have knocked this figure out of the park, making one of the best DCUC figures to date. The details on him make you forget there is a plain buck under him. He has added pieces from the torso down to the boots. Not only is he a variant, but also we get a Sword, whip and horn, all detailed. The only issue with them is that the whip and sword are made from the same type of plastic, and that makes the sword very soft and prone to bending.

Steppenwolf (red)-

The Super Powers line of figures in the DCUC line is starting to come to a close, and this figure is one of the best transitions in the line. The figure is better than the Super Powers versions from the 80’s with big spikes, and details that make him look scary. The face has a scowl on it that would scare any of the heroes in the DCUC. He comes with his axe that is attached by a plastic line, that looks like a rope, a nice touch for the figure to keep it as Super Power accurate as possible. The figure is so well done I want to squeeze his legs to make him swing his axe, but it never happens.

Kilowog-

This big boy has been a long time coming. It is nice to see such a solid wave of figures that are all connected. The BAF is the perfect ending to the wave. The truth is that he is huge, and while size sometimes means losing some details (just look at the DCD version) he is just as well sculpted as the smaller figures. He towers over the whole DCUC line, and is to date my favorite BAF. There are a few small problems with the figure. Because of the size there were a few sacrifices in terms of articulation. He has lost the mid thigh swivel which can make it difficult to pose him, as his ankles don’t always stand flat on the ground. He also has two closed fists, which again means if we ever got a lantern for this guy, he would not be able to hold it without drilling the figure on your own.

This line gets better with each wave. The size and scope of the DCU is growing by leaps and bounds because of this line. The size of Kilowog is perfect, the Corps are growing, and for some of us we get to rebuild our childhood.
