The Iron Man 2 concept series takes comic influences and mixes them with the look of the movie designs to give us some fun armors.  While many of us are always complaining about the numerous character variants in other lines, the variants in this line offer great display possibilities.

The Deep Dive Armor-

This figure is bulky.  It feels like there could be a person in the armor. The figure has ball jointed hips, but they are limited because of the armor plates on the legs. Like the hips, both the ankles and head are also limited. The knees are double jointed, giving us a good range of motion. The arms have a good range of motion for this figure. Unlike other armors, this figure does not have a wrist articulation, limiting his ability to pose shooting his torpedo without looking awkward. The best part of the figure is the paint. There is subtle shading around the figure to give it the appearance of lights coming off the figure, something a suit like this would need.

The Power Assault Armor-

This figure has a major drawback for some collectors, its color.  The red and gold paint on this figure is too similar to the other armors in the line to make it stand out.  I found this figure first and passed, but on Bill’s advice I gave it a second look and decided to get it anyway. If you have the chance, though, I would recommend skipping this figure and getting the Inferno armor version. It has a different paint scheme and has the same parts. The figure itself is bulkier than any of the standard armors, with built on rockets and weapons. This version comes with a missile launcher which clips on to his arm. The ankles and the shoulders are limited due to the armor around them, but the rest of the figure has all the standard articulation, making him very posable.

Hypervelocity Armor-

If not for the last minute paint change this armor would have been a pass for me. The package and card art for the figure have it painted in red and gold colors, but the final figure is in a deep purple, and silver. The colors are what set this figure apart from the rest of the line. The design of the figure is more squared off than the rounded shapes in all the other armors. The figure looks like it’s made up of a series of plates, rather than the armor we are used to. The ankles, wrists, and shoulders are again limited due to the design of the armor. The missile launcher also matches the plating design of the armor, almost looking like a wing on a plane.

The concept line has some great possibilities for future figures, but the bottom line is these are the fun figures in the line.
