PAX East 2012: Sleeping Dogs

Square Enix had an incredible showing at this year’s PAX East. Attendees and press were offered glimpses and hands-on time with many of the most anticipated titles coming from the ubiquitous publisher this year. One of the most immediately impressive titles on display was Sleeping Dogs, a third-person action game that puts the player in the shoes of an undercover cop traversing the gritty streets of Hong Kong. We were able to sit down with producer Dan Sochan, who led us through a playable demo and offered glimpses of what to look forward to when the game launches later this year. To make a long story short– there’s a lot.

PAX East 2012: Spec Ops: The Line

Spec Ops: The Line sees the return of the long-running series and its first foray into the modern generation of consoles (the last title was Spec Ops: Airborne Commando back in 2002). Publisher 2K’s impressive military themed booth– complete with a post-apocalyptic bus– contained a lengthy single-player demo of the game that offered players a glimpse of its realistic third-person combat and engaging story. We went hands-on with the game, spoke with the lead writer Walt Williams and Survival Expert Reggie to find out everything we could about this promising new military-themed shooter from Yager Development.

PAX East 2012: On the Floor with Triforce

Among the maze of crowded booths, flashing LCD displays, and booming soundsystems, Triforce’s elegantly subtle presentation demanded the attention of passers-by. Being unveiled to the public for the first time were several new prop collectibles straight from some of your favorite games. To say these pieces looked amazing would be a gross understatement and, while photos can’t do them justice, we have shots and impressions of each one.

PAX East: Double Dragon Neon

If the phrases “bro-op” and “dude-bro synergy” don’t make you chuckle, you can just get out of your chair right now and walk away, probably to do something decidedly not manly. Still here? Yeah, I thought so.

PAX East: Aliens: Colonial Marines

One of the more popular attractions at this year’s PAX East was without a doubt Aliens: Colonial Marines– and with good reason. People waited patiently in line for nearly three hours at a time for a glimpse at some gameplay footage and a hands-on multiplayer build of this highly anticipated title. We were able to check out what Sega had to offer and, whether you’re a fan of the Alien franchise or not, it’s looking damn impressive.

A Bold New Direction for the Ninja Gaiden Franchise

Although Tecmo has been publishing Ninja Gaiden titles dating back to 1989, the series really hit its stride in 2004 when Team Ninja and director Tomonobu Itagaki (of Dead or Alive fame) developed a reboot in 2004. After spending five years in development, the new Ninja Gaiden quickly appealed to hardcore gamers with its exciting adventure storyline, deep combat system, streamlined visuals, and challenging gameplay. Now, with a new creative team behind the helm, Ninja Gaiden 3 has been released to mixed fan reactions – but are their concerns justified?

TV Korner: Mad Men 5.3 – “Tea Leaves”

After last week’s nigh-flawless double premiere, I had my doubts that this week’s episode of Mad Men would be able to match up. It didn’t, but average by this show’s standards is still pretty fantastic, so who am I to complain?

Does the New Avengers Trailer Reveal What Aliens are Invading Earth?

A new Avengers spot started making the rounds on TV and online recently. Not only does the trailer continue to tease us with more awesome-looking (and appropriately big-scale action), but we get a much better look at the alien army being controlled by Loki.We know they’re not Skrulls, but could the alien menace be the Korbinites?
