Man, 2012 turned out to be a pretty lousy year to be a Joe fan. With Renegades and the 30th Anniversary cut down in their prime to make way for Retaliation– only to have the new movie bring with it some half-boiled new toys (with a few exceptions), and now a 9-month delay on the movie announced last week. I don’t think anybody bought Paramount’s announcement that the movie pushback was just for 3D’s sake, and now there’s lots more buzz floating around what happened.

Valiant was nice enough to share a lettered preview of X-O Manowar #2 – a little teaser for those of us who just can’t wait to see how Aric of Dacia’s story plays out in the relaunched universe. The four pages they’ve released show Aric leading a group of imprisoned Visigoths in a rebellion against their Vine captors and coming face-to-face with the titular alien armor. The art is outstanding and the preview sequence plays out like a tense action movie — further solidifying my feelings that the new Valiant is doing everything the right way and is set for greatness once again. Check out the hi-res images after the break and look for X-O Manowar on shelves June 6th.

Even while hyping their upcoming blockbuster titles, Square Enix announced a new game today — American MENSA Academy, which will see release on July 27th for PC, followed by XBLA & PSN as well as Android and iOS. While many details are still forthcoming and likely to surface during E3, the game is set to feature over 100 levels packed with questions from five different schools of thought derived from a collaboration between developer Barnstorm Games and MENSA members. As you are rewarded with Mensa IQ scores at the end of your sessions, American Mensa Academy will no doubt suck you in and encourage daily test runs while you try to better your knowledge and outdo your prior scores, much like Dr. Kawashima’s excellent 2006 title, Brain Age. Check out Square Enix’s official press release after the break
