The Avengers Assemble, Poorly

avengers-featThe Age of Ultron is upon us!  So says this poster!

Like pretty much everybody, I’m really excited for Avengers: Age of Ultron.  That’s good news, because we’re inching ever closer to the May 1st release date of Marvel’s next major movie, so they’ve got at least my ticket guaranteed.*  It’s also good news, because I’m stoked enough for the film that even a terrible poster doesn’t hurt my overall excitement.

It’s not for lack of trying, with the poster in question, though.  Jeez.  The proportions in this shot are just so bad– look at how off scale Hulk and Black Widow are, chilling in the mid-background together.  Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch?  They seem literally tacked on, like an afterthought.  I guess that’s kind of interesting, though… at first, I assumed the twins and Vision were being hidden in the marketing for proprietary reasons, to save their big character reveals for the movie… But now I’m thinking they’re just being sidelined to make way for the sizable core cast the average moviegoer is already familiar with from the previous Marvel movies?  Maybe the age of new characters being a big deal in movie marketing is a thing of the past now?

I dunno.  I still think the movie is going to be awesome, and obviously it’s going to make ALL THE MONEY this summer.  So the poster here is kind of pointless, little more than wallpaper to serve as the 27th reminder to theater goers that the Avengers sequel is a thing and it’s coming.  But still– the 70s were a long time ago.  Wallpaper doesn’t have to be ugly.
