We already championed our support for Mark Waid’s free weekly digital comics back in the beginning of May, when the team at Thrillbent.com debuted its very first comic. Now that the creators are getting more comfortable with the format and the stories are really starting to take off, I think it’s time to bring this great site to our readers’ attention once again.

It would appear I jumped the gun in assuming Valiant would be announcing a standalone Ninjak series this September, but he will be debuting in September’s issue of X-O Manowar. In what should be an exciting jumping-on point for new readers, X-O #5 will kick off a new story arc that will find Aric of Dacia (who has since returned to Earth) targeted by the ruthless intelligence agent.

Batman finally takes the fight to the Court of Owls in this week’s issue. Also, Batgirl beats a guy up and feels bad about it and we learn that the Silk Spectre grew up in a 1960s high school drama.

Earlier today, Valiant released a teaser image featuring X-O’s helmet pierced by a bloody katana with the tagline “Enter: Ninjak.” That’s right, in addition to their already strong initial lineup along with the upcoming relaunch of Eternal Warrior and Rai (according to the FCBD preview), Valiant revealed that one of their A-List titles, Ninjak, will be returning this September.

One of the best things about the summer months is always the huge list of trades that Dark Horse Comics releases. Throughout July and August, Dark Horse will release more than 30 trade paperbacks, hardcovers and graphic novels, and we’ve put together a list of six titles that absolutely deserve your attention.

Before Watchmen is already upon us, and if the first issue is a sign of things to come for the next 35 weeks, we have a whole lot of awesome storytelling to look forward to.

With debut issues currently staggered for release through August, Valiant is giving fans something fresh to look forward to all summer. This month brings us the first issue of the relaunched Harbinger, a series any comic fan should be familiar with as it was one of Valiant’s most acclaimed franchises in the early 90’s and one hell of a book. I’m glad to say the kick-off to the new series doesn’t disappoint – maintaining the general plot of the blockbuster original while playing around with great new takes on the characters and with a darker, more foreboding feel overall.

The second installment of Valiant’s X-O Manowar relaunch hits shelves on Wednesday, June 6th and, while I typically try to avoid giving accolades to a series so early in its run, it’s already become one of the most fun and entertaining titles I’ve read in years. Only two issues in, writer Robert Venditti has crafted an exciting, perfectly-paced narrative brought to life by Cary Nord’s superb visual flair. The new X-O Manowar has already displayed a charm and relevance that rivals, if not exceeds, the original and I couldn’t recommend it more strongly.

Valiant was nice enough to share a lettered preview of X-O Manowar #2 – a little teaser for those of us who just can’t wait to see how Aric of Dacia’s story plays out in the relaunched universe. The four pages they’ve released show Aric leading a group of imprisoned Visigoths in a rebellion against their Vine captors and coming face-to-face with the titular alien armor. The art is outstanding and the preview sequence plays out like a tense action movie — further solidifying my feelings that the new Valiant is doing everything the right way and is set for greatness once again. Check out the hi-res images after the break and look for X-O Manowar on shelves June 6th.

The spotlight shines brightly on Dark Horse this week for delivering some of the strongest comics on the shelves. A murder-mystery involving a down-to-earth alien and the beginning of an epic new Star Wars tale really stand out from the crowd; keep reading to find out why.

Valiant just posted a press release with some great news – not only have they sold through the entire first run of X-O Manowar #1, the second printing will hit shelves in June with a brand new wraparound variant cover. In case you missed our coverage of the book, I was impressed to say the least. Check out the full press release from Valiant, which includes the release dates of their upcoming titles and a hi-res shot of the slick new variant cover of X-O:

This week we’ll be looking at Daredevil, Mark Millar’s new series The Secret Service, Wonder Woman, and Avengers vs. X-Men Round 4. One of them is awesome, two are pretty good and one is Avengers vs. X-Men. Keep reading!

Following the relaunch of X-O Manowar and next month’s Harbinger, Valiant’s blockbuster title Bloodshot will be hitting shelves July 11th. Written by Duane Swierczynski, with art by Manuel Garcia & Arturo Lozzi, this iteration of the character has a capable team at the helm to deliver what we hope will be a stellar title. If the preview artwork is any indication, the book will be every bit as exciting as the original run in the 90’s.
