For me, one of the most exciting reveals at Toy Fair was NECA’s announcement that they would be releasing a toy line for Prometheus. Ridley Scott’s upcoming movie looks incredibly ambitious and insanely cool, and (I hope) may end up being the best film of the Summer. While many details about the movie are still shrouded in mystery, from what we’ve seen so far it looks like there will be no shortage of visually dynamic stuff just begging to be captured in plastic. I though it would be fun to go place some guesses on what the upcoming Prometheus toy line could look like…

Months before Toy Fair, rumors started swirling around a mysterious listing posted on amazon.com for an alleged exclusive GI Joe Retaliation Preview 4-Pack. While the listing disappeared and Hasbro kept mum of any movie preview sets at Toy Fair, in-hand product shots have now hit the web featuring an Amazon-branded box set… and more exciting is, it’s clearly labelled “Premiere Pack,” so odds are we will be seeing this sooner than later! I’ve never made it a secret how much I love Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo Collection. Combining the stylized Bishoujo (or “pretty girl”) design, courtesy of Japan’s leading Bishoujo artist Shunya Yamashita with classic pin-up girl sensibility, Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo collection offers a unique take on the top ladies of pop culture. The collection started with Marvel and then DC heroes and villains, but has since expanded to include video game characters from games like Mass Effect and Tekken, as well as movies such as Star Wars and Ghostbusters. With the line going strong and the quality and intricacy of the statues improving with each new release, I wanted to present my wish list of the top ten ladies of pop culture who deserve their own Bishoujo statue. From comics to games to movies, Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo collection keeps getting better and here’s my top hopefuls for the future!

Next year there will be a new live-action movie version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming at us from Michael Bay (he of Transformers infamy), and the producer’s recent hints that the Turtles’ origin is being revamped met lots of harsh feedback from fans online. But even if the continuity-screwing turns out to be true, this professed Turtles fan has to ask– is there enough to TMNT to get up-in-arms about in the first place?

This week saw a pretty big announcement from Marvel in the form of a new application called Marvel AR and a revolutionary new line called Infinite comics. Starting in April, smartphones and tablets with cameras will become readers’ windows to extra content, like original sketches and writer/artist commentary, when the AR logo is scanned within the forthcoming app. Is this a useless new idea that will be underutilized and done away with shortly after launch, or could it truly be the next step in digital comics publishing that other companies will have to adopt in order to stay competitive?

Mattel gives and Mattel takes away. The company’s plans for 2012 seem to revolve around a clear and decisive split between their “collector” toys and “kid” toys, and the news coming from Matty’s camp late last week seems to prove they’re taking this plan seriously.

Not only was Disney’s John Carter an excellent movie, but it was also filled with more “toy-etic” designs than any other big budget movie in recent memory. With iconic heroes and villains, a huge and lavish world from which to pull inspiration, and a strong sense of cinematic design, John Carter seems like a sure-fire hit on toy shelves. But no company bit for the first movie… let’s take a look at why (along with some fan-casting fun) as I propose the line I think would be incredible.
