Movie Review: Men In Black 3 Turned Out Really Cool (Somehow)

The last thing I was expecting walking in to Men In Black 3 was that the movie wouldn’t be dreadful, so imagine my surprise when not only was it NOT awful, but it was pretty damn good!  After a dull first sequel, Men In Black 3 feels like a real return to form for not only the semi-franchise, but also director Barry Sonnenfeld, and it makes for a very enjoyable and consistently entertaining Summer blockbuster.

Skyfall Trailer Shows Little, But Does It Well

The latest James Bond movie has had its fair share of holdups (most of them related to MGM’s financial woes), but slowly the project has been picking up steam and by all accounts it should be another great installment in the franchise for current 007 Daniel Craig.  The first trailer is short and pretty cryptic, but it’s got a good sense of style that hints that this movie will be more Casino Royale than Quantum of Solace (spoiler: that’s a good thing).

Edgar Wright’s Ant Man Movie Is A Go!!!

Not only was The Avengers an awesome movie, but it’s insane box office success has, predictably, gotten the gears turning on some back-burning Marvel movies, including the Edgar Wright-helmed Ant Man.  This is amazing news for any Wright fans (and if you’re not a fan or Wright, then you’re Wrong– ba-dum-bum!)

Hasbro’s Big Avengers Problem

The Avengers movie was not only a great blockbuster, but a smashing success– beating records for the biggest opening weekend of all time, and in no danger of losing steam anytime soon.  But Hasbro’s toy line has been suffering, and is under-performing at the worst time imaginable.  The toy company can still course-correct, but they need to get to work right away.

Movie Review: The Avengers (Jason’s Take)

Most fans of the source material will be flocking to theaters this weekend to see The Avengers, the epic culmination of characters and storylines spanning five films, with a mix of excitement and apprehension. But with so much that could have gone wrong, I’m happy to say that writer/director Joss Whedon got so much right, crafting an experience that’s truly greater than the sum of its parts. This film is popcorn cinema at its finest and its going to make so much money.

Movie Review: The Avengers (Bill’s Take)

Like the old saying goes, any great team is more than the sum of its parts.  That concept is illustrated brilliantly in The Avengers, which escalates the scope and characterization of Marvel’s movie universe into the stratosphere and delivers the most entertaining, most satisfying and what might be the greatest comic book movie ever.

Movie Review: The Avengers (Adam’s Take)

The Avengers can be seen as the antithesis of Spider-Man 3.  Whereas Sam Raimi’s much-maligned blockbuster suffered from too many villains in one film, The Avengers has to spend much of its two hour and twenty minute running time just introducing its main characters and getting the audience up to speed.  Luckily, writer and director Joss Whedon manages to keep the pace high and even the periods of long exposition don’t wear out their welcome.  Most of the dialogue is exactly what we’ve all come to expect from a Marvel film; witty banter, tons of one-liners and sexual innuendo, etc.  Robert Downey Jr., whose role as Iron Man kicked off this whole event four years ago, gets probably the most screen time of anyone and delivers every line, funny or not, with conviction.

Avengers: Loki’s Army Revealed in Plastic (Also By Joss Whedon)

We’ve know for a while now that Loki’s alien army would be getting the toy treatment in Hasbro’s The Avengers movie series. Buzz around Toy Fair back in February seemed to suggest we’d see at least two soldier figures– a single-pack and a deluxe version– to troop build the forces of the sinister God of Lies in his campaign against Earth’s mightiest heroes. Now those rumors have been confirmed… along with the long-lived question of what kind of aliens these guys actually are.
