Disney’s John Carter is an exciting adaptation of the classic pulp fiction series that does justice to the Mars novels as well as big-budget sci-fi epics. With a cast of wonderfully realized characters, a great sense of visual style all its own, and some fantastic effects, it’s taken a hundred years to bring Edgar Rice Burroughs’ creation to the big screen, and this movie makes it worth the wait.

21 Jump Street is the latest in a long line of classic TV shows being re-imagined for the big screen, and the new take on the “old school” undercover cop story sends up the original show– and the buddy cop genre– with just the right mix of raunch, meta jokes, action and comedy, and the result may be the funniest and most entertaining retro reboot since Land of the Lost.

The Woman In Black marks the third movie released by horror film icons Hammer since their return, and the movie– starring the former Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe– is the first movie that deserves a place in Hammer’s hall of fame. Atmospheric, dark and more than a little spooky, The Woman In Black is a great addition to the grand Gothic Horror tradition.

There were a lot of major panels at New York Comic Con, but the biggest by far was the Marvel Sudios panel for The Avengers! The movie, coming to theaters next Summer, is the culmination of six years of films, bringing together such comic book (and now cinematic) heroes such as Iron-Man, Captain America, The Hulk and Thor along with newcomers such as Hawkeye and Black Widow in the ultimate comic book team-up movie. The panel saw the first big-screen presentation of the brand new Avengers trailer, as well as an exclusive first look at a scene from the film… and featured much of the cast of the super hero movie live to answer questions from fans!

At this point, hopefully you’ve heard of Attack The Block. The incredible sci-fi/ action/ comedy from first time British director Joe Cornish hosted a panel at New York Comic Con, as well as a screening of the film at the Museum of Modern Art earlier this week. I had a chance to sit down with Joe to talk about his amazing movie, and the experience of hitting a cinematic home run on his first time out directing a feature film.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American Air Force squad, who flew over 1,500 missions across Europe during World War II. The story of the Red Tails, named for the distinct coloring of their legendary P-51 Mustangs, has been a personal project of Star Wars creator George Lucas for two decades, and this story will finally make its way to the big screen next January. Lucasfilm hosted a panel at New York Comic Con all about the epic action film, featuring the film’s co-writer Aaron McGruder (The Boondocks), actors Michael B. Jordan and Leslie Odom, Jr. and real-life Tuskegee Airman Dr. Roscoe Brown! The panel discussed the movie– and the real life history behind this American hero story, and unveiled some brand new footage and a great new poster for the film… Check it out now!

One of the reasons Marvel’s movies work so well is getting not only the right cast but also the best director for each film. With Thor, Kenneth Branagh joins the ranks of awesome directors such as Jon Favreau, Louis Leterrier, Joss Whedon and Joe Johnston. Despite his amazing career as both an actor and director, this is one of Branagh’s most mainstream films, which we discuss in the interview… read on!

Not everybody in Thor is a mythic God, what’s great about the story is Thor getting grounded in the “real world” as well. This is where he meets Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and Jane’s assistant Darcy Lewis, played by the delightful Kat Dennings. Kat talked about what it was like to join the Marvel Universe… and mishaps with her taser scene. Check out the full interview…

It takes a certain kind of badass to play the strongest female warrior or the gatekeeper of Thor’s homeland of Asgard, but both Jaimie Alexander and Idris Elba are certainly up to the challenge as the mythic warriors Sif and Heimdall. We sat down with both of them, to talk about the new movie, what it’s like to be an action figure and more!
