Earlier today, EW ran a feature offering the first sanctioned look at toys based on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Stormtrooper themed gallery showed off Hasbro’s Black Series Stormtrooper, as well as Lego’s figural building set, and Mattel’s First Order Stormtrooper Hot Wheels car.
The feature confirmed that Comic Con will be the venue at which many more pieces of Star Wars merch will make their debut… and Hasbro’s 6″ Trooper will be available to purchase at the show, as one of Hasbro’s SDCC exclusives. Images and even overseas eBay listings of this figure surfaced last month, so it’s certainly not a total surprise that we’re seeing him released early. I could also point out that I predicted the Stormtrooper would be this year’s Comic Con exclusive last December, but I’m too humble for that. Okay, maybe not.
If you’re not going to Comic Con, or even if you ARE going but don’t have the fortitude to deal with the storming Normandy-on-acid experience that is Hasbro’s retail booth on the Con floor, don’t fret– the Comic Con exclusive here is actually just the Stormtrooper’s snazzy deluxe packaging. He should be re-released as a standard Black Series figure this Fall, alongside the rest of the Force Awakens toys.
So there ya go. Not exactly a complete surprise, but Comic Con will be the first ever place to pick up a First Order Stormtrooper. What do you think? Is the special packaging enough to motivate you to get your hands on this guy? Or the fact that you can get him two months before Force Friday this September? Share your thoughts in the comments!
