DC announced their game plan for the next few years and Marvel gave them just enough time to gloat, that was until today. Marvel answered back with what some may say the formula for a knock out punch. Now I do not want to feed into the VS battle as I am the one who is happy as heck to see all this come to reality!
Most will agree that DC’s Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice needs to come out of the gate in full sprint to remotely make the impact that Marvel has made. Others will argue that the Trinity of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in name alone will be enough to keep up. Marvel has been at this for a very long time and has taken many risk to get where they are. DC has played it safe and with the track record of mostly flash in the pan but no UMPH has made the executives a tad nervous. Because lets face it if BvS bombs they may not have enough in the tank to recover.
DC has owned on the small screen with Arrow, Flash, and the animated properties. When it comes to the big screen no one can argue Marvel’s dominance in (well except for Ghost Rider, FF2, Spider-man 3, and GR2 which were not Marvel Studios but still) big screen movies. Marvel had a rough start with Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D but once they officially tied them into the movies BOOM– it was gold.
Marvel dropped some major bombs on DC’s parade today but one major one was missing. The talks with Sony with regards to Spider-Man. The story arcs that are being mentioned are Web Head heavy and without him I do not think it will be easy to rewrite. Yes I know Spidey is NOT a true Avenger but he is there a whole lot and lets face it Civil War he has a pretty big part in that story.
Can DC come through in the clutch with a home run to get things started. We can only find out when BvS hits the big screen. I am truly excited to see how DC approaches this “multiverse” as they are saying they are going to start. Marvel is on cruise control and it seems DC is still in second gear.
So for the next 6 years we as comic fans have much to look forward too. It shouldn’t matter if you are a Marvelite or a DC purist just go support the genre so we can see our characters last forever!
