There was so much going on in the 80’s that some lines got lost in the shuffle. He-man, Transformers, GI Joe, Star Wars, Thundercats all still get attention today, but some of the smaller lines tend to get forgotten. Hasbro over the past few years has made sure properties like MASK, Visionaries, and the Micronaughts are not left in the past. Through SDCC exclusives the are creating modern looks for these classic 80’s characters.
Growing up I had a much bigger memory for the Visionaries than was real. The show only lasted a few episodes, but the toys had such a huge impact on my childhood. They had holograms, and for some reason it was the in thing back than, so it set them apart from the other lines. Also I was not allowed to get GI Joe or MASK because they were army guys with guns, so these toys were more acceptable in our house. The Visionaries were also filled with knights and magic filled with action and adventure. Looking back I can see how small Visionaries were to the overall 80’s, but it does not diminish how cool this figure fitting in with the modern GI Joe line.
MASK on the other hand is a total blank spot for me, I remember it as GI Joe light. I did get the Matt Tracker from the GI Joe classics line, but this one is such an improvement. better sculpting and paint make this the version to get. The only thing missing is his car, hopefully if this trend continues at SDCC we will see it sooner rather than later.
Jetfire rounds out my favs from the set. He is a re-release, but one i missed the first time around. The size and details are a vast improvement over the original Transformers Classic from the beginning of the line. The bot mode is 100% 80’s and perfect in every way.
Bill took a look at the other half of the set, and though it is sold out online you can still pick them up for decent prices on Ebay.
Thanks again to Hasbro for this review set
