First Look: Lego Minifigures Series 17

Lego Minifigures Series 17 is just about to hit toy shelves and we found them a little bit early, so we thought we should get up close and personal with most of the set.

This new series of Minifigures is not as remarkable as the last two, but does offer some things that make it worth tracking down. So how do you find the one you want? you need to feel for the unique parts, so here is what you should be looking for to find each of the Minifigures.

  • Corn Cob Suit- The suit’s side husk parts
  • Rocket Boy- The lower rocket fins
  • Butterfly Girl- The wings
  • Hot Dog Vendor- The hotdog
  • Elf Maiden- The legs, she is the only one in a dress
  • Roman Gladiator- The trident
  • Battle Dwarf- His hammer
  • Circus Strongman- The barbell
  • Highwayman-The tri-corner hat or the pistols
  • Verterinarian- The bunny, but also the hair b/c the bunny and bulldog are similar in size.
  • Dance Instructor- The water bottle top
  • Surfer- The surfboard
  • Retro Space Hero- The ray gun
  • 80’s Guy- The walkie talkie part to make the phone
  • Chef- The pie
  • Frenchman- The french bread, and the French Bull Dog, but can be confused with the bunny.

Now that you know what to look for let’s look at the figures.

Just looking at them they don’t seem as impressive as the Batman and Disney series, partly because they are just City figures, but also there are only 16 of them. This is the first time in a while we have had a 16 figure set, the last two have been 18 and 20 figures in the series, so while it is nice on the wallet, it still feels like something is missing.

The figures themselves continue to build the minifigure world, and expand some of the themes we have seen over the waves. All of them connect to older figures in this line, but the real stars of this series are the accessories. The pets in the series are great additions as well as the food and containers. I know I’m getting excited over a cup, a water bottle, or a whisk, but as you expand you collection they can come in handy. The accessories also made feeling the packages much easier than the past few waves, I had them all sorted in about 20 minutes in the Walmart aisle. The last two waves took 30-40 minutes to find them all because of the lack of accessories, or similar ones.

All the minifigures add a lot to the modular builds, and if you are building your own world like Lord Business they all have their place. They are slated for release on May 1st, but some Wal-marts are putting them out early, and we are waiting until then to reveal the mystery Highwayman figure. Check our FB and Instagram for a detailed look at him soon.
