Big Trouble In Little China/ Escape From New York #1 (BOOM! Studio)
Team up comics are a trope almost as old as comics themselves, and there’s certainly no shortage of them, even on today’s comic shelves. One of the newest is Boom! Studios’ double Kurt Russell mash-up “Big Trouble In Little China/ Escape From New York.” Taking place after their respective films, this six-part miniseries sees hapless doofus Jack Burton transported from 1987 to the “near future” year of 2001, where he meets the notorious Snake Plissken. Greg Pak’s story most definitely skews toward the campy goofiness of Big Trouble much more than the hard edge of Escape, but it was a fun, breezy read with stylized artwork courtesy of Daniel Bayliss and Triona Farrell, who ramp up the chins and chests of this pair of Russells to an almost absurd degree.
Loot Crate’s version of issue #1 features an exclusive variant movie poster-style cover only available in this Crate, painted by Nick Robles.
