At Toy Fair this year, NECA revealed Predator Series 12, set to include a new, revamped version of the Elder from Predator 2, as well as the first ever Dark Horse comic Predators– Bad Blood and Enforcer. Also at the show was the Kenner-inspired Blade Fighter vehicle, conceived to include the Viper Predator as a pilot figure.
Now we’re getting closer to the release date of these figures, and they’ve been shuffled a bit. Bad Blood has been moved out of Series 12, and will be released as a stand-alone deluxe figure, complete with special packaging. The Blade Fighter will now be released without a figure, to keep costs down, and Viper has been rolled in to Series 12, so now it’s:
- Elder Predator 2.0
- Enforcer Predator
- Viper Predator
I’m okay with these changes, and I think they bring to light why NECA is better than just about any other toy company out there. Clearly, this was a situation where the numbers just weren’t adding up. Most companies would have simply cancelled things until they hit the monetary balance they needed. Others would “dumb down” their designs to shave off tooling dollars, perfectly fine releasing sub standard toys.
But NECA found a way to still release every piece they planned on, without sacrificing quality. To me that’s proof they’re not BS-ing when they say they’re fans first, and it makes it really easy to support and endorse those kinds of people.
Look for Predator Series 12 to hit retail in June, with Bad Blood following shortly in July.
