2017 has been a banner year for Mega Construx, which has expanded some of their greatest building toy lines like Halo, as well as new properties like Pokemon. New releases for both lines were on display, including a new wave of Pokeball creatures for the latter, and new weapons, new figures, and the first ever Goblin Battlesuit in the toy line.
But those properties are just the beginning. Mega Construx also showcased new MCX Probuilder sets. These sets are not based on any property, but they’re both outstanding… the first is a Viking ship, loaded with cool looking little viking raiders, tons of detail and features on the boat itself, and an eye catching red and white sail on top. The other set is called Space Rover Expedition, featuring an awesome looking rover, complete with drone, supplies, and a bunch of astronauts that sort of remind me of The Martian‘s space suits. This set was inspired by fan artwork sent to Mega Construx, which was then developed into the final set as it appears.
Mega Heroes was one of the most exciting surprises to hit retail this Summer, and a second wave of mini figures will hit retailers (starting with Wal-Mart) before the end of the year. The new wave includes another six figures– Teela and Beast Man from Masters of the Universe, Fry and Bender from Futurama, and Kirk and Spock from the classic Star Trek episode “Amok Time.”
Mega Construx has been very pleased with the performance of this umbrella collection thus far, and they are paying close attention to which characters are the most popular. It is certainly possible that well-received Mega Heroes characters will inspire more figures from that property in the future… and we may even see building sets within the Mega Heroes collection, as well.
Take a look at the latest and upcoming products from Mega Construx on display at their NYCC booth… as well as their Halo mini figure display, which collects every Halo mini fig they have made from 2009 to the present.
