I think the writing is on the wall that we will get at least the cast, if not the name of Star Wars Episode VII this Sunday on Star Wars Day. But if the report from Deadline is true, the new lineup has already been revealed. There is a table read of the script going on today in London, and even the mighty JJ Abrams and his mystery box fetish won’t be able to keep this under wraps for much longer.
Who’s on the supposed list? Attack the Block‘s John Boyega, along with Adam Driver (both strongly rumored for the past months), Maisie Richardson-Sellers and, most interestingly, Oscar Isaac from Inside Llewyn Davis. This sounds like a winning cast to me– yes, some of these names have been in the rumor mill for so long, some might find it anti climactic if they are officially announced, but not me. To me, adding great actors like Boyega or Isaac or Driver, known for in depth character work even in the realms of genre movies, feels like a big win in the corner of Episode VII. If this really is our new cast, I’ll be very excited.
The other interesting bit from Deadline regards Harrison Ford, who will apparently play a much bigger part in the new movie than previously anticipated. It will be great to see at least Han Solo in something more than a cameo, so again, I’m excited!
May the 4th is only a few days away, but I’d guess Abrams will fight tooth and nail to keep everything he can under wraps until then. I’m not quite sure he’ll be able to, but if these latest rumors are true, whether they’re revealed officially today or on Sunday, it will really ramp up my excitement in this project.
How about you? What do you think of this possible Episode VII cast?
