A little more than a week ago, Arrow’s Executive Producer Wendy Mericle stated in a Twitter post,
A bold claim, but now that the trailer has been released, was it all just hype? Probably, but it was REALLY GOOD hype. Official synopsis is as follows,
After defeating his most formidable foe to date and riding off into the sunset with longtime flame Felicity Smoak, Oliver Queen (a.k.a. The Arrow) left Starling City with the hopes of beginning a new life. But will Oliver ever truly be able to leave behind his past as the Arrow, and, if so, what becomes of the team he has worked so hard to assemble? Will Diggle, Thea, and Laurel be left to continue Oliver’s crusade without him? And with Malcolm Merlyn having ascended to the top of the League of Assassins as the new Ra’s al Ghul, is anyone really safe?”

Following the usual Arrow trend of inching closer to the comics’ in both content and tone, Season 4 opens with the renaming of Starling City to the comic accurate Star City in memory of Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) who has been presumed dead since his little catastrophic explosion at the end of Season 3. Retirement has clearly agreed with Oliver (Stephen Amell) as he trades in his green hood for a green hoodie, and settles in to a comfortable life with Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). Meanwhile, the New Team Arrow Diggle (David Ramsey), Black Canary (Katie Cassidy), and Speedy (Willa Holland) have dedicated themselves to keeping Star City safe, but when a former rival to Ra’s al Ghul called Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) comes to Star City with an unclear goal, and a private army in tow, it’s going to take more than the combined forces of the new Team Arrow, it’ll take a legend. But Oliver doesn’t want anything to do with the Arrow. Instead he’ll become someone else. He will become some*thing* else.
The trailer also showcases the return of Paul Blackthorne as Captain Lance, Katrina Law as Nyssa al Ghul, John Barrowman as Malcolm Merlyn, Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Amanda Waller, and the return of Caity Lotz as Sara Lance just in time for Legends of Tomorrow. Newcomers include the likes of Echo Kellum as Curtis Holt (DC Comics’ Mister Terrific), Jeri Ryan as Jessica Danforth, Alexander Calvert as Anarky, and the exciting return of Matt Ryan as John Constantine (He can do it!).
