The Hydra villain may have more of a role in Marvel’s cinematic universe than his Avengers 2 cameo.
We’ve known for a while that Thomas Kretschmann’s Baron von Strucker would only have a small role in the opening scene of Avengers: Age of Ultron, but now it looks as though the Hydra commander may have more appearances up his sleeve in Marvel’s Phase 3.
Kretschmann spoke to B.Z. Berlin and confirmed his Marvel deal is for more than just the one movie:
“I have a multi-picture deal which means I will not only appear in [Age of Ultron], but they’re planning with me for a longer period of time. I don’t know details yet, they’re keeping their cards close to their chest — top secret!”
Now, this does not guarantee von Strucker will return, as Marvel could be booking him just to have available if they need him. However his Hydra connections seem like the perfect fit for him to resurface in the third Captain America movie, so who knows what they have planned?
But we’re definitely getting von Strucker in Age of Ultron, and apparently not only will he not die in that movie, but he’ll be rocking his signature monocle, as well! Supposedly the goofy green jumpsuit won’t be making it to the screen, but I’m sure we’ll see some adaptation of his iconic look in the Avengers sequel. Of the many things Marvel Studios has excelled at, making their character believable yet instantly identifiable is one of the most impressive.
