Push Comics Forward: 10 Years of BOOM! Studios
Friday, March 27, 5:00-6:00 PM, Hall C (TCC 301)
10 years ago, Ross Richie started BOOM! Studios from a spare bedroom in his house. Today, BOOM! is a multiple award-winning top 10 publisher. But rather than look back at what we achieved the past 10 years, join us as we look ahead to the next 10 years and unveil our Push #ComicsForward campaign. Join Ross Richie, President of Publishing and Marketing Filip Sablik, and Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon as they host creators Shannon Watters (Lumberjanes), Lissa Treiman (Giant Days), Madeleine Flores (Help Us! Great Warrior), and James Tynion IV (The Woods, Memetic, UFOlogy) to talk about their new projects and reveal how they’re helping to Push #ComicsForward.
Push Fun Forward: The Importance of All-Ages Comics
Saturday, March 28, 12:00-1:00 PM, Hall C (TCC 301)
All-ages comics are important now more than ever in helping to bring in new and lapsed readers, from practically every demographic. Join us as BOOM! Studios associate editor Whitney Leopard leads a discussion of the significance of all-ages comics—from what it has achieved thus far to what it should target next—with creators Katie Cook (Gronk), Brooke Allen (Lumberjanes), Royden Lepp (Rust), Ian McGinty (Bravest Warriors), and David Petersen (Mouse Guard)!
Push Diversity Forward: Cartoonists, Comic Books, and the Web
Saturday, March 28, 2:30-3:30 PM, Hall D (TCC 302)
Webcomics are more popular than ever and one of their biggest fans is BOOM! Studios Editor Shannon Watters. She’s helped create opportunities for webcomics creators to work on mainstream books like Adventure Time and Regular Show, and played a large part in forming the BOOM! Box imprint, which publishes comics “for the love of it.” Join Shannon Watters, Noelle Stevenson (Nimona), Madeleine Flores (Help Us! Great Warrior), Melanie Gillman (As the Crow Flies), and Ananth Panagariya & Yuko Ota (Johnny Wander) as they discuss the unique opportunities webcomics provide in terms of diversity both in content and readership, and how webcomics are affecting the comic book industry as a whole.
10 Years of Mouse Guard
Sunday, March 29, 1:30-2:30 PM, Hall D (TCC 302)
2015 will mark the 10th anniversary of David Petersen’s beloved series, Mouse Guard, published by Archaia. Come learn about what’s in store for the title—like details of a new art book and what to expect from the new Legends of the Guard series—from David Petersen and Assistant Editor Cameron Chittock. Hear from Alice Finch, the LEGO builder who spearheaded the magnificent Mouse Guard LEGO display you see on the show floor. And listen as David Petersen performs a reading of a short Mouse Guard story! Moderated by BOOM! Studios’ Marketing Manager Mel Caylo.
