I’m a little torn right now. I love the cast of the Muppets Most Wanted, including Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey, and I’m thrilled that Bret McKenzie is returning once again to do music, but this first teaser didn’t do much for me overall.
We get lots of glimpses of the celebrity cameos in this second modern Muppets go-around– a staple of the old show that I’m glad to see brought into the modern age– and the blatant hyperbole of the first half of the trailer, and brief glimpses of the Muppets themselves immediately made me feel all warm and fuzzy for the remarkably good 2011 movie.
But Scooter singing “Moves Like Jagger” is no “Cluck You,” at least not based on what we see here.
I’m not trying to be a debbie downer– I love love LOVE the Muppets, and I’m incredibly happy they’re back in the mainstream where they belong. Maybe the new movie is saving the goods for the big screen when it hits next Spring (or the 9-odd months in between then and now?)… or maybe I’m just in a funk today and that’s why this trailer didn’t resonate?
Either way, The Muppets Most Wanted doesn’t really have to sell me– I’m a lock for a ticket on opening night, good or bad. But it does have to work on all of you… So what do you think? Is the new trailer getting you pumped for more Muppets on the big screen?
