Cobra Commander Comes To Springfield, Illinois

The city of Springfield welcomed G.I. Joe’s number one nemesis, and even gave him the key to the city!

They hide their faces behind menacing masks.  Their flag is a fang-bearing, venomous serpent.  They literally describe themselves as “a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world.”  But it looks like Springfield, Illinois missed them memo, because they welcomed the legions of Cobra with open arms.

Cobra Commander paid a visit to Springfield to promote the upcoming G.I. Joe Collector’s Convention taking place April 9th to 12th.  While he was there, the villain met with Springfield’s mayor, J. Michael Houston, who presented the despot with a key to the city.

The Commander shared a gift of sorts with the city, as well, saying “Springfielders near and far, I accept your Mayor’s generous gift. And let it be known that I too bring a gift for every man, woman and child of this city that is so near and dear to my heart; an invitation to join with me. Join Cobra!”

I’ve gotta say, the G.I. Joe Collector’s Club totally nailed it with their Springfield promotions for this year’s Joe Con.  They will be posting video of Cobra Commander’s meeting with Springfield’s Mayor on their YouTube channel later today.

So far, there’s no word on how many Springfield residents have accepted Cobra’s invitation, but as soon as we get more information, we’ll surely pass it along.
