Art can make or break a book, so looking at the art in the newest issue of Superman it takes a little bit of adjustment. I expect to see Spiderman in ever panel when reading the book, but by the end I adjust and lose myself in the Superman story.

The story is rather simple, examining Clark Kent’s life with humans. Johns shows how hard he works to stay out of the way of others, to protect them from his secret life. It is the little things like cooking a steak that brings home how lonely being the perfect man can be for Clark.

The other half of the story mirrors Clark’s arrival on earth with another man. The story starts with another death of planet, and parents sending off their only child to give him a chance to live. They send him to another dimension, just like the last son of Krypton.

There is not a lot to the story and the real event is Romita’s art. I am curious where this story may go and if the new “last son” will be a friend or foe. It will be an adjustment for many comic fans, but it could be fun to see how Romita handles the other heroes in the DC universe.
