Bif Bang Pow’s off scale (but still very nice) Dr. Mrs. The Monarch action figure just needs a quick fix to fit right in the the Venture Bros. toy universe.
I very much liked the first series of 3.75″ scale Venture Bros. action figures released by Bif Bang Pow earlier this year. Each figure was a spot-on representation of their animated counterpart, and the figures had a slightly retro and entirely cool sense of style.
But sometimes production issues happen, and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch’s toy turned out weirdly out of scale. The figure has some odd proportions in her final form, leading to a figure way too short to fit in with her fellow Venture toys, but it’s an easy fix to get her back in shape.
The issues with Dr. MTM stem from her torso and lower legs, both of which are too stubby. I first tried fixing the torso– her waist is a simple plug that can pop right out if you heat the figure, and it synchs fairly well with the Marvel Universe female body. But doing this sacrificed the old school, cut leg style of the toy, and interrupted the great sculpt by Bif Bang’s team.
So I put her back together and decided to fix the lower legs, instead. Dr. MTM features single hinge knees, which are the same scale as the new Marvel U. female body. I popped off Scarlet Witch’s legs above the knees (since she features the high heels needed for Dr. MTM) and popped the legs in place on the Venture villainess.
From there, all I had to do was match up the deep yellow of Dr. MTM’s boots and paint the new legs from the knee down. The new lower legs do a lot to balance the figure’s proportions. Yes, her torso is still a bit short, but her legs and arms match up much better this way, and she gained a few centimeters (putting her just above the Venture boys in height now), and some extra points of articulation out of it, too.
