The best part of going to see Prometheus this weekend was the trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, and it’s so good it was worth the admission price all on its own. I’m suddenly wondering how I can make it until Christmas before getting to see this movie!
There’s so much to love in the teaser trailer for Django Unchained, it’s not even funny– I love the switch from the heavy and somber Johnny Cash-fueled first half of the trailer to the funky, 70’s Blacksploitation scored second half. These two and a half minutes set up everything you need to know about the movie’s story, reveal the characters who seem as cool and well-crafted as we’ve all come to expect from Tarantino, and plenty of insanely great shots (my personal favorite is the blood spray on the cotton– so cool!!)
Tarantino wrote the role of Django specifically for Will Smith, who later turned down the project. I can only hope that somewhere Smith is watching this trailer and giving himself the most epic facepalm of all time, realizing what he missed out on.
Django Unchained opens on Christmas Day.
I think I’ll be skipping dinner with the family to enjoy Tarantino’s present instead.
