Fresh Monkey Fiction and Remco are bringing Eagle Force back to the toy world later this year, and their new Kickstarter campaign teases the grand return.
When it came to iconic properties, the 80s were an amazing time. Your GI Joes, and Thundercats, and My Little Ponies, and Ninja Turtles have stood the test of time, and many of these brands still exist today. But just as magical, in my opinion, were some of the knock-off properties, made by rival companies in an effort to ride the coattails of a successful franchise.
GI Joe had its share of emulators, but for my money, none were cooler than Mego’s Eagle Force. These die cast soldier figures featured a squad of cool and unique characters, each with their own specialty, weaponry, and cool flourishes like eye patches and cybernetic arms (on the same character, no less!).
Eagle Force has been dormant for decades now, but Fresh Monkey Fiction and Remco are giving this team a new life later this year through Kickstarter. The new line promises to feature classic Eagle Force characters, figures based on unreleased prototypes by Mego, and all new creations… and they’re all sculpted by the amazing designers at Boss Fight Studio. I cannot be more serious when I say that Eagle Force is THE most exciting action figure Kickstarter on the horizon.
While we wait, Fresh Monkey Fiction have decided to have some fun, offering a teaser campaign on Kickstarter to help get the word out about the all new Eagle Force. Like we saw with their Amazing Heroes line, Fresh Monkey has really gone out of their way to pay tribute to the vintage Eagle Force line, creating a whole new narrative picking up 30 years after the original toy line’s mini comic stories, and enlisting the series’ original artist Paul Kirchner to help with the new designs.
The old and new work by Kirchner, along with more new artwork courtesy of Steve Butler, takes center stage in this set of Eagle Force trading cards, which will highlight Eagle Force characters past and present… including an all new, previously un-revealed figure joining the line. These cards should serve as the perfect primer for anyone new to Eagle Force, or to get all of us existed fans up to speed on the new series. As a throwback to the die cast figures from the original line, there’s even rewards that include metal trading cards to add to the set!
I was taken by the charm of Eagle Force as a kid, and just the fact that this nigh-forgotten property is coming back would be enough to pique my interest. But it’s clear from what we’ve seen thus far that Fresh Monkey Fiction and Remco are going deep, to make this new toy line something really fun and special. We’ve been living through a dearth of awesome 3.75″ military action figures as Hasbro’s GI Joe line has remained by and large dormant for the past few years, but I think Eagle Force might wind up being the exact thing hungry Joe fans have been waiting for.
You can read more about the Eagle Force trading card Kickstarter below, and back the project here. I’m all in– from the trading cards to the action figures– no doubt. How about you?
Eagle Force Returns with a new Trading Card set and modern 4” action figures!
Do you remember the Eagle Force toy line from the early 80s?
Not many folks do, but don’t worry, Fresh Monkey Fiction and Remco are teaming up to give this crack military team another fighting chance with the EAGLE FORCE RETURNS toy line later this summer. These modern 4″ scale military action figures will bring back the sense of realism, action and fun that has been missing from toy shelves for the last few years. The toy line will see the return of Captain Eagle to the front lines as he reforms Eagle Force to confront the evil forces of R.I.O.T. (Roving International Organization of Tyranny) who’s quest for world domination threatens the globe.
Fresh Monkey Fiction is kicking off the return of Eagle Force by launching a Kickstarter campaign for a set of Eagle Force Trading Cards. This is a great way for fans to get reacquainted with Eagle Force before the action figures kickstart later this summer. This set of 20 cards will explore some of the original characters and also provide some hints to what characters will be returning later this year.
The Eagle Force Trading Card Kickstarter is now LIVE and has some great rewards, including extra cards, metal cards and art by original Eagle Force designer Paul Kirchner. You can find it here:
