Marvel made the announcement that Ant Man, the Edgar Wright-directed movie which kicks off the Studio’s “Phase 3” has been pushed up from Fall 2015 to July… so we’re getting this one a full two months early!
What does this move tell us? First, I think it’s obvious Marvel is happy with whatever work Wright has done so far– it’s gotta be a sign of confidence in the project to fast forward it into the ever-more-daunting Summer of 2015. It also suggests that Ant Man may get a direct lead-in from The Avengers 2, such a strong lead in that Marvel didn’t want to give them another two month’s worth of space.
Past that, who knows why Marvel would pack an already overpacked Summer slate… but I’m not complaining– I love Edgar Wright, and after Guardians of the Galaxy, this is the Marvel movie I am most keen on by far. So getting to see it two months earlier is A-OK in my book!

In addition to “Ant-Man,” Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including “Thor: The Dark World” on November 8; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on May 1, 2015.
