New details surface on our favorite scruffy nerf herder, three decades later.
In case you missed it, last Friday saw a colossal avalanche of strongly backed-up news from Star Wars Episode VII, and a lot of it was really exciting! We got our first look at the new Stormtrooper helmets, some details on the movie’s new villains, and some updates on Han Solo.
First, Indie Revolver– the site that leaked the Stormtrooper’s new look a day earlier– posted some concept art showing off Solo’s outfits from Ep VII:

Like the trooper helmets, both of these outfits look cool and totally within the Star Wars wheelhouse. The new arctic outfit is a nice update to the Hoth one, and I guess Endor sparked a 30-year love affair with trench coats for our heroic smuggler (or maybe he’s been watching Firefly?)
But that’s not all– Devin Faraci at Badass Digest followed up with a report that Han and Chewie will be piloting a Super Star Destroyer in the movie, while Oscar Isaac’s new character tools around in the Millenium Falcon.
This makes some sense in regards to the slightly Imperial vibe of Han’s arctic outfit, sure… but the context leaves me scratching my head. First we had the rumors that Luke Skywalker just up and vanished for 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and now Han and Chewie are Imperial pilots? I’m very curious how all of this comes together in the new storyline…
But y’know what, genuine curiosity and strong character design are enough to keep me engaged in this movie’s development. And I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t getting tougher to keep my excitement in check and my expectations low.
