Here’s the deal– I’m being much more selective with my ReAction purchases in 2015. It’s not that I don’t still like what Funko and Super7 are doing, conceptually… but increasing expenses and shrinking shelf space have left me needing to be a bit more discerning when it comes to my toy collecting budget.
That being said, there’s a few lines on the horizon which are so cool, there is no way I’m passing on them. The Jaws ReAction series looks incredible, and now we’ve got a first look at one of my most eagerly anticipated toy lines, based on David Fincher’s Fight Club. The series features four figures– Tyler Durden both in his leather jacket and shirtless, Marla Singer, and the Narrator (Edward Norton). They all look awesome!
I like that these figures feature a lot more sculpted detail than some of the simpler ReAction toys… these feel, to me, much more authentic to the 80’s Kenner era than, say, the overly simplistic Karate Kid or Back to the Future figures. There’s some actual anatomical attention paid to Tyler’s bare chest, and look at all the textures worked into Marla’s sexy trainwreck of an outfit. And the hands, balled up into fists? What a fun touch to add.
Of course, there’s a hypocritical element to any merchandise released around Fight Club, which aims its scathing satire at consumer culture, among several other targets. But Chuck Palahniuk has always landed somewhere between totally dismissive and ardently supportive of perpetuating this hypocrisy. If it’s good enough for the author of the novel, it’s good enough for me. And if you agree, you can preorder the Fight Club ReAction figures HERE. Project Mayhem is scheduled to commence in toy form this October.
