At this point I’m a total Hunger Games convert. I never read the books, and back when the first movie was about to come out, I was all set to dismiss it as another Young Adult cash grab in the berth of Twilight.
But instead, what we got was a fully realized, well acted, smart and exciting story, one that struck all the right notes to feel like a modern classic. I’ve revisited the first movie quite a few times, and I’m hooked on re-watching Catching Fire, which is a good movie to begin with, but one I’ve noticed gets even better the more time you spend with it.
I’ll put it this way– me, a dye in the wool Marvel fan forever… who went to see Guardians of the Galaxy in theaters THREE times this summer… well, my favorite movie of the year killed it at the box office, but will most likely be beaten with ease by Mockingjay – Part One. And I’m fine with that.
My big concern comes from my friends who read the Hunger Games books… Apparently the ending left much to be desired, and it started to fall apart at the beginning of Mockingjay. Will the film course correct those errors? Will it feel like a satisfying endings to this surprisingly great franchise? I really hope so… and I’m totally willing to see for myself.
