Funko Officially Announces Firefly Legacy & ReAction Figures!

By bill - December 20, 2013

firefly-featThere are TWO toy lines coming in 2014, based off Joss Whedon’s Firefly… and some old school Buffy toys on the horizon, as well!

Funko has been taking a “12 days of Christmas” approach to teases and reveals for 2014, some of which have been quite exciting.  They’ve landed new properties like Arrested Development and Ghostbusters for their Pop! vinyl line, but more importantly they have confirmed we will be seeing toys based on Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

For you awaiting Legacy news…….)Won’t be much until NYC, due to top Secret stuff…but here’s one….

Firefly Legacy(late 2014)!!!!
And Firefly Pop! and Firefly Re-Action(spring 2014)!

This is intriguing news, especially on the Legacy front.  We haven’t seen any hyper realistic, fully articulated toys from Funko yet, but they have likened their Legacy banner to Star Wars Black Series, in terms of quality, design and accuracy.  If they can hit that mark with cool properties like Firefly and Game of Thrones, they could become an even bigger contender in the action figure market in 2014.

As for the ReAction stuff, I’m curious to see how it does… Super 7’s smash hit Alien ReAction (shipping now, BTW) did much better than anticipated, but that line had history– they were based off molds of 35 year old unproduced prototypes, the stuff of myth and legend to many action figure collectors who grew up with the dawn of toy collecting media.  It’s cool to do old school figures from other properties in theory, but I’m not sure how far the market will stretch when it comes to all-new toys that just look old.

I’m stoked to see what Funko comes up with either way.  They’ve been hinting that Toy fair in February is going to be full of HUGE reveals, so expect full coverage from us in early 2014.  I can’t wait to see what these guys have up their sleeve!
