There’s been a flurry of licensing artwork trickling out for both of Marvel’s 2015 movies, including our best look yet at the costume of Ant-Man’s titular hero, as well as his nemesis Yellowjacket. Here’s what they look like:
I like the Red and Yellow predominance in these outfits, which look eye catching and easily discernable for what will, essentially be two guys in bug suits duking it out. Bearing in mind that these graphics are often completed before the filming is done– and hence they are subject to change– I think the designs work.
What’s very interesting to me is Yellowjacket. Look at those extra arms, and the shape of his mask… If you swap out the black of his suit for red, this costume would look pretty damn similar to Peter Parker’s “Iron Spidey” getup, as seen in the Civil War comic books.
We know Civil War is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we know that Marvel at least gave it the ol’ college try to get Sony to allow Spider-Man into the movie. I can’t help but wonder if this very familiar design on Yellowjacket is somehow tied into that studio-crossing effort… or a hint that maybe it could still become a reality?
On the other hand, it’s worth noting that Marvel Studios borrowed Iron patriot and simply put James Rhodes in the suit instead of Sony Norman Osborn, so it’s also quite possible what we’re seeing here is Marvel simply borrowing another cool looking comic design and getting liberal with their big screen adaptation. Does it really matter? If you’re reading this, I’d assume you’re like 99% likely to see Ant-Man AND Civil War regardless of details like who’s in the movies, right? We’re all Marvel Studios’ bitch, pretty much?
