Guillermo Del Toro’s haunted “adult movie” gets a perfect release date.
It’s always exciting when a Guillermo Del Toro project comes together (and even more exciting when it gets far enough to land an actual release date!). The next film to hold that honor is Crimson Peak, a haunted house movie starring Charlie Hunnam, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska.
And now we have a release date– Crimson Peak will hit October 16th, 2015. While that’s a ways off, I can’t remember the last time I got to see an actual, legit horror movie in theaters this close to Halloween. Most scary movies hedge their bets and come out in August, and they’re gone before the Halloween season even begins.
There’s also more good news– Del Toro promises Crimson Peak will be similar to his early Spanish films. That’s totally cool, because early GDT– Devil’s Backbone, in particular– is so incredible, I’d love to see the director return to that same style and tone, coming off a blockbuster like Pacific Rim. It worked amazingly well for Sam Raimi with his Drag Me To Hell, and I think Del Toro will capture that same sense of old school magic.
We will certainly keep following this project as news develops!
