I have been waiting for the new Hasbro Green Goblin since Toy Fair in February, and I finally saw him at Walmart while shopping for puppy toys. So how is he? Find out inside.
I will admit this is the first review I am doing without opening the figure. When I first saw this figure at the 2009 Toy Fair I was excited to see a new version of this classic character. The year rolled by and we saw a painted version of the figure at SDCC, and I was more excited about getting him and the Spiderman from the set. Like most toys the actual product did not live up to the prototype hype.
One night shopping at Walmart, surprisingly not for my toys, I saw the new Green Goblin on the pegs. I grabbed him immediately from the pegs and walked away. As I started to leave the store doubt set in. Questions like “Is this the new version?” “Why does this look so different?” popped into my head. So I called a friend to look it up online to compare the two figures before I bought him. Sure enough this was the new figure, but holding him in my hands I could not believe this was the same one I wanted way back in February. I ended up buying him and after a few days of looking at him in the package, I made the decision, he was going back to the store.
While I complain at times about having to re-buy figures, sometimes if the newer version is better even in the smallest way, re-buying becomes a non issue for me. I thought it
would be fun to have a definitive version of Green Goblin and Spidy for my desk just to hang out, but I could not bring myself to buy either one. Both figures lacked the articulation and details of the Toybiz versions. Having these on the shelves for parents to pick up for kids as presents is fine, but they should be a pass for collectors.
