The Hobbit: Desolation Of Smaug Gets A Trailer

hobbit-smaug-featDragons! Elves! Sauron!  The new Hobbit trailer has everything for Middle Earth fans…

…Everything except how they plan to stretch what’s left of the story into two full length movies, that is.

Don’t get me wrong– this trailer is very well put together, and once again the nostalgia factor kicked in strong for me when I saw Legolas spring into action with his bow (extra points for LOST‘s Evangeline Lilly as fellow elf/ love interest Tauriel).  And it was cool to finally hear Benedict Cumberbatch growl life into the fearsome dragon Smaug.*

It still boggles my mind, though, on how Peter Jackson and co. can get TWO more three hour movies out of this story.  Will they dare stretch what we have to end Desolation of Smaug with Bilbo still in the Lonely Mountain?  Or will the dragon be defeated, leaving us at the cusp of the War of Five Armies?  One thing I’d wager– there will be walking, and lots of it!

*You’ll likely see more of Smaug in the special trailer running with Gravity starting this Friday… one of the many reasons to go see that great movie!
