The JLU is back in Target, but how do the new sets stack up? Find out inside
After a very long drought, the JLU line has new multipacks at Target. It felt like we would never see anything other than the Question and Fire and Ice. Now we are starting to see, albeit infrequently, the new packs. I was only able to find the Batman Beyond pack, but I hear the Cheetah pack is also making it’s way out to stores.
This pack is everything I want the JLU to be right now. We keep hearing that this is a line made for collectors, with that title on the package, yet time and time again we are forced to get the big seven over and over again in the multipacks. Not for this one, though. We have three new figures that only make fans of the animated JLU Universe hunger for more.
In the episode “
The Once and Future Thing, Part 2: Time, Warped”
Batman, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman follow Chronos into the future that has been changed. They are about to get into a huge fight when the JLU of the future step in to help the heroes of the past. War Hawk and Batman (Beyond) jump in and take the heroes to their hideout where Bruce from the past meets the older, crankier Bruce. The three heroes of the future make up this new JLU three pack, and for once I am happy with a JLU set.
There are no paint issues, no warped joints, and the only balance problem comes from War Hawk and it is due to his wings. This is what we should expect from the JLU, but unfortunately it is the exception, not the rule.
The winner of the bunch is old Bruce, he is a character that was so important to the Batman Beyond Cartoon, but never made. The body type is perfect for the figure, wrinkles and all in his face. The only thing missing is his cane and Ace. War Hawk also matches his cartoon counterpart. The one figure in the set that is slightly off is Batman Beyond. While it is nice to have this character in this scale, the figure came out bulky. His arms and legs, which match the Timm style, are not proportionate to the rest of his body.
If you can find these at Target grab them because this is a great set. And if your Target’s are packed with the old three-packs tell them to check this number: 087 06 1141, and check their back stock. M
ost of the stores around me have been willing to check when I explain the packs on the pegs are over a year old and I want the 2009 product.
