The Kick Ass Controversy

Kick ass 2 CarreyIn a few weeks the world will get to see what happens to Kick Ass and Hit Girl in the sequel to the 2010 hit comic adaptation. But this film is stirring up some controversy over the violence in the film, and the source of the issue one of the film’s biggest names, Jim Carrey.

Carrey has used his Twitter account this weekend to condemn the use of violence in the upcoming film saying:

“I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence.” & “my apologies to others involve with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”

There is no doubt that the actor knew of the first film when he signed on, and to wait until right before the movie’s release seems a little strange. In the film Carrey plays Colonel Stars and Stripes, a “Born-Again” Christian who chooses not to use guns in his crime fighting.
The creator behind the comic and film Mark Miller had his own response to Carrey on his own message board Miller World.
