The first waves of Hasbro’s new movie-themed Marvel Legends are hitting stores for the New Year, and the Captain America Legends deliver a truly great assortment of Cap-themed characters to the line. The first series, available now, features five comic-styled heroes and villains, each with a piece of the Build-A-Figure Mandroid, while the second set coming soon will feature movie accurate versions of Cap, the Winter Soldier and Black Widow.
We’ll be looking at each of the Cap Legends available now, and there’s no better place to start than with the all new Marvel Now! Captain America. This new version of the star spangled hero features an all new sculpt of his current look, and he makes for a truly great figure.
Captain America is extremely well sculpted, with the details of his armor plating, the folds of his pants and the details on his gloves and boots all very well rendered. The new head sculpt is quite good, with lots of detail on Cap’s chin strap and clean paint apps for the “A” and wings on his helmet. Cap’s face is very reminiscent of the recent Commander Rogers figure, making for a nice continuity between figures. While the individual elements of this figure are great on their own, he’s even better overall, striking a very dynamic and heroic silhouette.
Aside from his great look, this Cap is also extremely poseable, with all the articulation we’ve come to expect from Hasbro’s newer Legends, allowing for plenty of cool posing options. Of course, he includes his shield, which is a new sculpt with lots of plating and detail on the inner lining, and a hinged clip so the weapon can sit on his wrist or plug into his back for storage. While I miss the elastic bands to help hold the shield in place, it’s still a good version of Cap’s signature accessory.
Captain America’s costume looks very striking in the bright, primary colors used here. The figure is cast in a deep royal blue with grey, red and white painted highlights, and for the most part he’s very crisp and clean. I saw a few figures with slop or chips on the high gloss paint on his waist stripes, but I found a great, well painted version after looking through only one case.
I have been very excited for the Captain America Legends since they were first revealed, and it’s a great feeling to have them in hand and be just as happy with them as I’d hoped. Marvel Now! Cap is a great new version of our hero, and he is without a doubt the new default Cap in my collection.
Check back tomorrow for a look at some of the enemies this awesome Captain America is ready to take on!
