Mattel made some waves with the reveal of their Super Powers collection, a send off to the long running DC Universe Classics collection. In this edition of Ask Mattel we get some new details on that set of figures and more.
Kastor’s Korner: Was there any chance of adding the vintage cloth capes and neck clip to those Super Powers figures of Superman and Batman and a separate lasso for Wonder Woman?
Mattel: The SP figures needed to be straight redecos. We did not have the resources to retool the figures to add capes or a separate lasso.
Kastor’s Korner: With two great Mattel Riddlers figures under our belt, why a $30 mock up Green Lantern Riddler vs Aquaman, Flash, or Super Powers Orion?
Mattel: Both Aquman and Flash (and Shazam) have already been offered in their SP deco. We wanted to ensure each figures was at least a redeco and not a rerelease on a new package. Orion in SP deco would have required new parts and tooling and therefore was not available as an option. The Riddler fit the bill as a repaint only that had not been offered before and would be a lot of fun for fans!
Kastor’s Korner: Will Madame Razz have the tops of her boots painted black?
Mattel: No, she will follow the Horsemen’s paintmaster. But good suggestion.
Kastor’s Korner: Will Mr. Mxyzptlk have a flight stand or some other means of floating?
Mattel: No, we looked into this and there really wasn’t a good place to put the “hole” for the stand without compromising the sculpt.
Kastor’s Korner: Any personal favorite DC characters you won’t get to see in DCUC?
Mattel: Blackhawk comes up a lot, as do quite a few other Legion figures, Vixen, Tempast, 90’s Green Lantern, 80’s Nightwing and Jim Gordon. Everyone has their favorite. But after 250+ figures we are really proud of the selection we did hit!
