It’s crunch time for Mattel, as we enter the final weeks for their 2014 Club Eternia and Club Infinite Earths subscription drives, but they still found the time to answer some pressing post-Comic Con questions for the latest round of Ask Matty. This time out, we’ve got new details on Modulok, some specs on the two-tiered plan for Doomsday and more.. read on for all the answers!
Kastor’s Korner: If I purchased two Modulok figures, would I be able to connect a third leg behind the pelvis to match the front two and achieve his tripod stance from the Filmation cartoon?
Mattel: We are hoping this will work but he is not far enough along to confirm yet. We also originally wanted to include a third leg, but it came down to this leg or the guns and we went with the guns.
Kastor’s Korner: Will all He-Man figures going forward feature the same hinged wrist articulation as Galactic Protector He-Man?
Mattel: No, that was special for He-Man or other characters that need that type of articulation like Bow.
Kastor’s Korner: Why was AJ released as an Elite figure “with necklace” when every basic series AJ figure includes the same articulation and necklace? What constituted her for an Elite figure if her necklace was included with every AJ?
Mattel: The figures in the WWE Elite Collection are the highest quality figures in our line because they have accessories, increased articulation and a large amount of detail. While the Elite AJ figure may have the same accessories and articulation as the basic AJ figure, it also has a lot more detail. In fact, the Elite AJ figure is one of the most detailed figures that we have.
Kastor’s Korner: There are a number of big ticket items coming in a very short window at the end of 2013. Are you concerned with compromising overall sales by having the Jet Sled, Horde Troopers and Castle Grayskull releasing within a few months of one another? It seems like some budget-limited collectors will have to choose one or the other due to the short window of availability…
Mattel: The sub items were promoted a year ago, so fans have had plenty of time to save up. We have also done a large big ticket item every year for the last few years like Granamyr and the Windraider, so this shouldn’t be too much of a shocker!
Kastor’s Korner: We’re aware of the two-tiered goal for the DC Club Infinite Earths 2014 subscription, with either of two Doomsday figures as the possible sub exclusive. But while a size-appropriate unleashed Doomsday has obvious appeal, we’ve never seen the release of a containment suit version of the character. Are there any outcomes in which both versions of Doomsday could see release, or is it specifically one or the other (provided the sub hits the minimum goal)?
Mattel: If we hit tier 2 and the Unleashed Doomsday is the sub figure, it may be possible to also release the Prison suit version outside of the sub, but way less likely the other way around. We need tier 2 level of customer to make the larger more tooling intense Unleashed version.
