When on a toy budget there is no doubt that cost and value are issues. The new collectors pack of Super Hero Squad made me want to take out the Falcon figure and return it with a figure from the clone bin, but the collector inside me thought that was a bit too shady. So I got the whole set, clones and all.
There is not much to say about this set, to be honest with you. The Ironman and Spiderman are the same old figures we have seen wave after wave. Emma is just a recast of the first figure in clear plastic. The Hulk is well executed, but I don’t like having to buy Ultimate characters with 616 versions.
The two standouts in the set are Falcon and Reed Richards. The Falcon is from the Winter Soldier set that still is in retail limbo, but it is nice to see Hasbro trying to get us the figures in some way. I had to go through about five sets though before I could find a Falcon with a decent paint job, and being the only original character in the set it was important that he was perfect compared to the rest. He has standard SHS articulation, but is a great addition to the Avengers. The other “new” figure in the set is Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic. When the Fantastic Four first came out in this line, we only had the option to get the Ultimate versions of the team, but slowly over the last few years we have seen 616 versions of the team, with the exception of Reed and Sue. With this version of Reed, only Sue is left. Reed looks good in his classic costume, but has no articulation and is really nothing more than a PVC figure.
Overall this set was a bust for the avid SHS collector, getting only one, two if you count Reed for almost $30. If it was definite that we would see the Winter Soldi
er set at retail (I saw one at SDCC for almost $200) this set would have been a definite pass for me.
