I have to be honest, but I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first hear about Sketch Fighter. It began at 8:00 PM on Thursday, and it was a quite a long day for me. I was dragging. But still, I wanted to see what it was all about.
Comedians included Robby Slowik, Rus Gutin, Greg Stone and Mike Lawrence. The artists that joined them were Diana Greenhalgh, Ralph Miranda, and legendary artist Joe Staton. The entire event was hosted comedian Tom Franck.
With the only 60 seconds on the clock, one person draws and one person tries to guess what it is. So what does this have to do with a comic convention? Everything.
This is the awesome part. The clues are all comic book related. One of the clues was the Golden Age Flash and just happen to be given to Joe Staton to draw. Seeing how Staton drew the JSA for 4 years, it was pretty awesome.
And the comedians just really kept the pace going. I honestly can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard. It helps that the comedians’ material is all geek related.
Sketch Fighter is usually done in the LA area, and if you have a chance to check it out, you definitively enjoy it. You can find Sketch Fighter on Facebook at the Comics And Comics page (https://www.facebook.com/comicsandcomics)
All the artwork from the competition was auctioned off to benefit the Hero Initiative.
